What I'm Loving Right Now
I keep meaning to post on here more regularly and then life starts lifeing and I forget I even have this blog. Anyway, I have a lot of stuff I want to yap about so here it is!
Books I'm Reading:
-The Mortal Instruments--real ones remember that I actually read this whole series for the first time 6 years ago, but a new Shadowhunters novella was released a few months ago and after I read that I realized how much I missed these characters. I have free will, so I decided to re-read the whole series starting with The Mortal Instruments for the third or fourth time. Nothing is gonna hit the same as reading these books for the same time when I was 14 but it hits different reading them as an adult and being able to understand and analyze more. I just finished City of Lost Souls (I'm skipping around to the parts I want to relive iykyk). I love Cassie Clare so much all her characters are so complex and nuanced. I do have to say that Valentine was a baby villain compared to Jonathan/Sebastian. He just spent all his time yapping and kidnapping Jace and Clary. Sebastian is pure evil but knowing how his story ends, I can't help but feel for him a little. This really brings up the topic of nature vs. nurture. Sebastian at his core just wanted someone to understand him. He'd never met anyone besides his evil dad til he was 17 (and then he went ahead and unalived the first person he met). But he grew up constantly being compared to Jace and Clary. He genuinely thought if anyone could love him/understand him it would be his sister. And then he went on an evil rampage when Clary didn't want him cuz he didn't actually know what love was. Anyways I'll keep you guys posted as I get into City of Heavenly Fire (my fave).
-The Favorites--I am actually obsessed with this book. I am currently reading the audiobook, and I only have like 30 mins left and I'm so sad. It's literally one of the best pieces of literature I've ever read. If you don't know, it's about a team of ice-dancers and it follows them through their career all the highs and lows. I got so into figure skating at the Olympics this year I have decided to follow it all year round. The less you know about this book going into it, the better it is. The drama, the plot twists, the character growth, everything is so good. Everyone go read it right now.
-Wings of Starlight--I'm not very far into this one yet cuz I've been so busy lately I haven't had a ton of time to read. It's so cute so far. I loved the Tinker Bell movies when I was little, and this book just feels so nostalgic for me.
TV Shows/Other stuff:
-Bridgerton--I just finished season 4 and it was so good. Benedict and Sophie are so cute together I loved their story. I lowk hate Sophie's dad but surprisingly I can't bring myself to hate Araminta. Ya she was terrible to Sophie, but after her first husband died, she needed money to support herself and her daughters. Like she said, a woman re-entering the marriage mart already widowed with two young girls was 'damaged goods' and she was lucky that Sophie's dad took a chance on her. She did what she had to to survive. Posy was my fave this season. She's so cutie, so whimsy. I loved the cameos from my man Anthony and Kate. Also, I think the new Whistledown is either Eloise, Hyacinth, or Cressida. Here is my official ranking of the seasons:
1. Season 2
2. Season 4
3. Season 1
4. Season 3 (never finished it cuz I can't stand Colin and Penelope)
-Operación Triunfo--ok so I have never actually watched a full episode of this, but when I tell you I am obsessed. If you are unfamiliar, OT is a Spanish reality singing show. The closest thing I can compare it to is American Idol or The Voice although it's not real similar to either. Essentially thousands of people 18 and older come from all over Spain to audition. Every year or every other year usually around June or July they hold massive castings in several major cities across Spain (including the Canary Islands as well). The judges eventually narrow it down to 18 total contestants that perform in Gala 0, where everyone rehearses and performs a cover song of their own choosing. After Gala 0, two contestants are eliminated through a mix of at-home fan voting and in person judging. The 16 remaining participants then enter what is called the Academy. Kinda like an influencer content house lol. It's basically a building with living facilities as well as classrooms where the contestants take class with professors in various disciplines such as vocal technique, dance, and English. For the next 13 weeks the contestants live and work together in the academy, performing a cover song chosen by the staff at a Gala every week. At each gala someone is eliminated either by the judges or the fans at home and goes home (although they do all come back to write/rehearse the finale song). Multiple people are usually nominated for elimination at each gala but the powers that be can vote to save one of them. While they're in the Academy, the contestants have essentially 24-hour cameras on them that fans at home can watch. After Gala 12, five finalists are left. At the final gala everyone performs 2 songs. The first is their chosen song from Gala 0 (to show growth), and the second is chosen by the staff. The winner of the show receives usually a check for 100,000 Euros and or a record deal. The runner up and third place winners also get an amount of money. And then in the Spring/Summer all the contestants from that season go on tour all over Spain and sing the most successful songs from the show.
*Note: if the judges decide that they're going to send one of this season's contestants to Eurovision that year, they have an extra Eurovision gala featuring original songs from the finalists.
